Bengal Fish Festival 2018

Department of Fisheries, Government of West Bengal and the Indian Chamber of Commerce jointly organized a three - day fish festival at Nalban Food Park beginning from 5th January to address the issues relating to Aquaculture, Fish Feed and Export in Fishery & Sea Food Sector along with the promotion of various fish cuisines. The event was supported by SFDC, NFDB, WBFC and BENFISH. MPEDA and Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India supported the event and also assisted in organizing the International Buyer Seller Meet.

A number of informative publications and leaflets like BangalirRasonaiMaach, 50th Glorious years of SFDC in the Fisheries Service,“MatsyaSambad”, Matsya MariboKhaiboSukhe, Redefining Fisheries Development were released during the programme.

Forty six companies, doing business in the Fisheries sector, exhibited their products and business in stalls. Separate stalls of Fisheries Department and SFDC, were put up that attracted special attention. Around ten nos. of Fishermen’s Co-op. Societies participated in the show. Sixteen exclusive Fish Food enterprises like Bhojohari Manna, 6 Ballygunje Place, SFDC, Benfish, Tangarine, IFB, served their chef’s favourite and displayed their culinary delicacies.

Technical Sessions and Seminars

A number of seminars with the stake holders were organized in order to identify the issues, address the challenges and pave the way forward for the holistic development of fisheries sector. The topics of seminars included, Seminar on Prospect and Challenges in Ornamental Fishery Sector, Seminar on Culture & Management of Fresh & Brackish Water including introduction of newfish species, Seminar on Management of Fishery inputs & scope for development of Marine Fishery Sector and Panel discussion on Indian Fish Feed Industry: Issues & Challenges & Export Opportunity inFishery& Sea Food Sector.

Cultural Events

Cultural programmes enthralled the audiences every evening during the Fest. To encourage preparation of varied fish food preparations culinary competition were conducted and the winners were awarded suitably by theIFB, a leading company in the field of fish food items.

With the objective of creating more awareness on the overall fish and fisheries sectorand activities of the Fisheries Department an open quiz competition was heldthat witnessed huge enthusiasm and participation.
